The Grand Canyon

280 miles, 16 fpm, year around

Rafting on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon is perhaps the best river trip in the world. That's a bold statement, but most will agree that it's not just about the scenery and the whitewater, it's a life changing experience. It's the Grand Canyon!

Lava Falls on the Grand CanyonThe whitewater is fairly straightforward big water Class III with a few easy Class IV's. It's big water so you will get wet, you will enjoy the rapids, and you might even get scared. The rapids are spread out and at times the pools in between the rapids are several miles long. The biggest rapids are Crystal and Lava Falls which both have a good chance of flipping your boat and both are intimidating.

Most people take 14 - 18 days to complete the 280 mile journey from Lee's Ferry to Lake Mead. It's possible to do a shorter trip by hiking into or out of Phantom Ranch at mile 88. Most people prefer the lower 192 miles below Phantom Ranch since it has a higher concentration of rapids and better hikes.

Many people say that the best part of a river trip down the Grand Canyon are the side hikes. Most of the hikes are up creeks like Tapeats or Havasu Creek and many lead to archeological ruins.
